Origin
Originating in the United States, the Cockapoo is a popular crossbreed. This crossbreed dog was truly the first designer dog and that was well before designer dogs became fashionable. The late 1950s brought the world the wonderful Cockapoo that we know today.
Pedigree
The Cockapoo was developed through an accidental breeding of a Cocker Spaniel and a Toy or Minature Poodle. This “accident” resulted in a few gorgeous, intelligent and family-friendly dogs. Because of this incredible mishap, many people began to breed Cockapoos.
There are two ways of thinking when it comes to the Cockapoo. Some people believe that a Cockapoo must be created by breeding a purebred Cocker Spaniel to a purebred Poodle. Others are dedicated to actually developing the breed. This is being done by using multigenerational Cockapoos to continue the development. In time, the Cockapoo enthusiasts hope to have this crossbreed recognized by the American Kennel Club as a purebred dog.
Food/Diet
Cockapoos like to eat and can quickly become overweight. They need to be fed a high-quality diet of dry kibble. Dry food will help to prevent oral health problems such as tooth decay, gum disease and bad breath.
Cockapoos are exceptionally intelligent dogs. They are super easy to train because they have a strong desire to please their people.
Training
Cockapoos are exceptionally intelligent dogs. They are super easy to train because they have a strong desire to please their people. New owners are always shocked to see how quickly this crossbreed learns and responds to commands. Many enthusiasts report that by the age of six months, Cockapoos can sit, stand, stay, come, heel and sit up on command! This is a bright mixed breed.
The Cockapoo is such an amiable dog that he makes a great therapy dog. He has a good nature and general affection for people. This hybrid breed can be quite the competitor in obedience trials and agility courses.
